Tyrvää St. Olaf’s Church, also known as Tyrvää Old Church, located in the village of Kalliala, was built in the early 1500s. Before the gray stone church, there was a wooden church on the site, as evidenced by medieval accounts from a nearby Kalliala Church. The gable decorations and other features link the church to the Satakunta group of churches. It was taken into use at the end of the Catholic era and was quickly adapted to the principles of the Reformation, complete with pew blocks and seating arrangements. In the 1600s, the church apparently suffered its first fire. It was abandoned in 1855 when a new main church was built for the parish on the banks of Vammaskoski.

The church’s new life began in the mid-1900s. It was repaired and became a popular wedding venue and tourist attraction. The southern slope of the aspen shingle roof and the weapon room, originally built under Antti Piimänen’s direction in 1748, were scheduled for renewal in 1996–1997.

Shortly after the roof was completed, on September 21, 1997, the church was struck by arson. Reconstruction began quickly. The exterior was restored to its former appearance, and the interior was designed by architect Ulla Rahola to resemble the original, maintaining the same use in order to recreate the former atmosphere of the church. The work was carried out mainly through volunteer efforts and donations. The rebuilt church was ceremonially reopened on August 3, 2003, by Bishop Ilkka Kantola of Turku. For the interior paintings, the parish council invited artists Kuutti Lavonen and Osmo Rauhala.
