Tyrvää and Mouhijärvi churches are contemporaries and share many similarities. Both brick buildings were designed by architect P. J. Gylich, and they resemble each other externally. Inside, the dome structures of the ceilings are similar, as are the white pulpits adorned with gold decorations.
The first preaching house for Mouhijärvi residents was built in the late 1500s, though its exact location is uncertain. The second church stood on the grounds of Selkee Manor. It was demolished in 1878, and its logs were used to build Mouhijärvi’s first elementary school in Uotsola. Today, the old church site (Vanhankirkontie 102) serves as a cemetery, and the base of the old bell tower was restored in 1999 as a summer chapel.
The third and current church was built on Haavoistenmäki in Mustianoja and was consecrated in 1858. The altarpiece, Christ on the Cross, was painted by Felix Frang in 1918.
