If you’re driving in the Keikyä area, park your vehicle for a moment and take a short walk. Cross the Kokemäenjoki River via the pedestrian bridge and enjoy the charming views on both sides. The Keikyä suspension bridge is Finland’s longest wooden suspension bridge, measuring 228 meters.
It was built in 1948 with funding from the former municipality of Keikyä and the region’s largest employer, Finnish Chemicals. The bridge is located in Keikyä, Sastamala, over the Kokemäenjoki River, between Myllytie and Peevontie, at the address Myllytie 22, 32740 Sastamala.
In autumn 2019, the Keikyä Heritage Association leased the bridge from the City of Sastamala to renovate it during 2020. The restoration was carried out as a volunteer project.
From the bridge, you can also see the 100-year-old Äetsä power plant. Furthermore, Sastamala’s cycling route toward Kiikka and Keikyä also leads to the suspension bridge, so hop on your bike and come see it!
You can admire beautiful photos of the suspension bridge on its official Facebook page. There is also a summer café on the bridge, with its details available on the Facebook page.
